A survey was conducted of residents in our target neighborhoods. Community outreach programs identified for Joshua’s Hand, Inc. as follows:

  1. Pre-school/daycare program
  2. Youth programs for the school aged children to participate after school and over the summer
  3. Food pantry and soup kitchen
  4. Adopting families and soldiers not only during the holiday season, but all year round
  5. Suffering academic situation of the Southeast Community and assist bringing charter and private schools into the community
  6. Active and effective Substance Abuse Recovery Programs
  7. Additional activities I would like to see executed are health fairs
  8. Town hall meetings in which the community could meet with their elected officials (city, county, state, and national) to discuss the issues that impact them greatly such as crime, job creation, and poverty
    • to promote safe sexual practices and
    • eating habits and
    • forums that address voter registration and mobilization

    Demographics of the targeted areas as follows:

    • 46816 and 46807 are overwhelmingly white
    • 46806 is majority black and other minorities.
    • The average adjusted gross income is $29,404
    • while the average adjusted gross income for the state is $44,790.
    • The median age is 30.25 and household size is 2.6.
    • Thirty five percent of those residing in 46806 are deemed to live at or belowthe United States poverty line while
    • 18.7 percent of those living in 46816 live at or below the U. S. poverty line.
